Solar Photovoltaic Panels
Generate Your Own Electricity with Solar PV Panels
Solar photovoltaic (PV) cells provide a way to generate your own electricity. The PV cells convert daylight into electrical energy. Each PV cell consists of two or more thin layers of semi-conducting material, most commonly silicon. When the silicon is exposed to light, electrical charges are generated and these can be conducted away by metal contacts as DC (direct current) electricity, through an inverter, which changes the DC electricity to usable AC (alternating current) electricity, matched to the supply network.

Photovoltaic panels come in many shapes, sizes and outputs. They can be roof mounted or roof integrated. All systems installed by Ward Electrical Renewable will benefit from the government's
Clean Energy Cash Back Scheme, or 'Feed in Tariff', which pays up to 41.3p per unit (kW/h). This system can significantly reduce the cost of running your home, with no ongoing greenhouse gas emissions.

above gives an indication of the variety of roof installations
available, and the nature of the equipment needed to operate them.
